Welcome to our new co-archivist - County Rugby under 20 and Newcastle University history student Marcus Harris. Thanks to a grant from Sunderland Council's Heritage pot and the work of Stu Grieves and Tony Hodgson on behalf of SRFC we are able to start digitizing Ashbrooke Sports Club's incredible archive. Marcus is scanning material and helping to set up a new 'Ashbrooke Archive' site on the club web site where all the digitized material will be placed for anyone to use for interest or research. As the initial funding and setting up of the project came from the rugby section, SRFC's archive will be digitized first followed by the sports still on the go as part of Ashbrooke Sports Club namely ( in foundation date order) cricket, bowls and squash. Finally (also in date order) now defunct sports - tennis, athletics, hockey and association football will be covered. The first part of the archive to be digitized is the invaluable Hartley Elliott Archive. This is the archive of an important international referee, administrator and innovative coach (1908 -2000) and was put together initially by the late Robin Auld. It is a real treasure chest of material as will be seen when we get it online. When all this is done and dusted we will still have time and space to follow up quirkier material like the one suggested by the attached poster!
